About Me

My journey to becoming a nurse did not originate from childhood. I was already done with my first year of college when it hit me that I would not be happy in my previous career interest. I was looking back into the times that I’ve felt the most comfortable and interested in life. It was odd to discover that those times lined up with times in which I also felt great concern for my family members for they were in the hospital. During their stay I was able to provide support and comfort to my family members. English is their third language and it can be difficult to understand the doctors. For that reason I found my self volunteering to spending every possible moment I had with my hospitalized family member. Through research and curiosity I obtained familiarity with my family members diagnoses and the treatments they were receiving. In doing so I was able to see the clarity it provided them in regards to their health. Not only was I willing to help my family members, I found myself advocating for the individuals that were patients in the next bed over. I realized the healing power that comes with company and caring. These were actions I naturally found myself taking. I knew that I loved talking to people and helping people in different aspects of their lives. However, what I did

not know at the time of choosing a major upon entry to college was what exactly Nursing encompasses. Only when my friend and I were brain storming possible professions I would coincide with did I stumble upon nursing. It was the second thing they suggested. First teaching, and then nursing. When he said nursing, it was like something clicked. I liked the way that sounded, Nurse Rebecca. I began to do some research as to what a nurse did and what made a nurse a good nurse. Through that process I found a great deal of appreciation and admiration for the profession. From becoming a CNA to the experiences I’ve obtained thus far in nursing school, it has only fueled my desire to becoming a part of the nursing profession.
